Joan Lillian North is a fantasy writer with a love of the outdoors and a good pair of knitting needles. When she’s not pulling inspiration from nature or casting on a new sweater pattern, she can be found spending time with her spouse and cat, often in a kayak or curled up in front of the TV.
Like most writers, her love of books began early on and was fostered by a family of readers. After falling in love with the fantasy genre, Joan began creating her own fantastical worlds during grade school, a process which often included taping sheets of paper together to create large maps for each new world. Storytelling quickly became a favorite pastime, and was further explored during summer breaks while taking classes at the Loft Literary Center.
Creative writing took a bit of a backseat in her college years as she pursued a B.S. in Geography and Geosciences, but the itch never went away. Towards the end of her senior year as her thesis was wrapping up, and her TA office hours were no longer filled with students, she found the time to scratch that itch and began exploring a new world, a world which would later become the first full length novel she’d write.
Now, Joan continues to work in the field of geography and spends her free time writing with hopes of getting her stories published and in the hands of readers who share her love of adventure and fantastical worlds.
